Smartwatches developers are working hard to expand their market shares in the UK. But a survey from Ofcom reveals that under 5% of British people owns a smartwatch.
Watchdog’s 2015 Communications Market Report gave the data that there is less than 5% of British people uses the smartwatch.
Jane Rumbe, the Ofcom’s director of market intelligence indicates that there will be a rise of consumers of smartwatch in the near future. He compares the growth rate to 4G adoption.
She stated that there was a rapid increase in 4G take-up due to the popularity of smartwatch. She believes that there will be a similar growth of using smartwatch.
The public have questions about the Ofcom’s research on smartwatches. And organization has admitted that figures were made before the Apple Watch had been released.
The watchdog agency did not pay close attention with smartwatch’s funciton, with its definition allowing fitness trackers to be included in the statistics.
Ofcom spokesperson told Pocketlint that smartwatch is a wearable computer that it could offers more functions we expected for a watch.
It concerns to make a smartwatch that having a mobile phone functions and tracking functions as well.
The survey also reveals that the smartphones have become the most popular items for shopping online.
