Ambient motions provides unlimited power supply for your smart-phone
Wikipedia provides a definition of the triboelectric effect as follows:The triboelectric effect (also
known as triboelectric charging) is a type of contact electrification in which certain materials become electrically charged after they come into fricative contact with a different material. There are some common phenomenons of friction?electrification in daily life. When you rub glass with fur, or a comb thorough your hair, the triboelectricity comes into being. With the development of technology, friction electrification can be used to get your phone charged.
Last year, scientists from the United States and China has worked together to develop a nano-generator, which can gain energy from the friction between car wheels and floor. The nano-generator is a successful utilization of triboelectric effect. Coincidentally, researchers in MIT is working on a new technology that offers promise of the never-ending smart-phone batteries.
MIT says the technology can be used in wearable devices like smartwatches. When a smartphone or any wearable device is packed with the new technology, it can gain power as long as the owner is physically on the move and even just walking.
With totally 1500 cycles of tests, Ju Li, the professor of MIT says the system is stable. In addition to providing energy source, Li also says,”It’s a good way to evaluate damage mechanisms in batteries, a way to understand battery materials better”.
It will be brilliant when you can have your phone charged by just moving your arms or walking for a short time. This new technology is useful for smartphone users especially iPhone users, because it is common that iPhone is energy-hungry, and you need to get it charged for many times when you keep playing it. Thus the new technology is an exciting and anticipated.
Although the new technology will bring great benefits for people, it is not so sure when smartphones will carry such kind of function and get endless power by friction.
