LinkedIn pay $13m to settle a lawsuit for spamming its users’ contacts
LinkedIn is famous for carpet-bombing its users with emails. These actions led to a lawsuit for the firm,which costing it a great sum to settle this issue.
LinkedIn, the social network for professionals made agreement to pay $13 million to close a class-action lawsuit because of spmming allegations out of court.
In 2013, a group of users in California filed an appeal concerned the LinkedIn’s Add Connections feature that sends a barrage of email requests to the user’s contacts on their behalf.
The lawsuit claims that LinkedIn damaged the users reputations due to the Add Connections spamming and it should compensate anyone who used this feature between September 2011 and October 2014.
Fortune reports that up to $3.25 million of the settlement fee will be handed over to the lawyers who handled this case. Regarding the amount each user receives depends on how many people participated in this appeal.
In the event of each user receives less than $10 from that amount, LinkedIn will pay an additional $750,000 to solve this case.
LinkedIn has took measures to amended its policies to reduce the amount of emails it sends, however, the amendation still could not help it to avoid the lawsuit.
