BBC Store is to sell “digital DVDs” of top TV shows this autumn
The BBC is going to offer 10,0000 hours of programming of digital DVDs to be download this autumn.
BBC Store will offer a great amount of collections due to different contents that the broadcaster has ever made available online. The classic shows and Doctor Who are included, and the Sherlock will be expected to come to us in the near future.
The BBC Worldwide will run this service as well, and its spokesperson stated that the consumers have great willingness to own copies of their favorite programmes and want to pay for them since VHS was introduced. The DVD and Blu-ray will be introduced to the public soon as well. The BBC Store hopes to provide more programmes for people’s collection in the digital age.
The digital DVDs have never been included in the license fee, and the consumers can be able to watch the programmes for free on BBC iPlayer for 30 days as they do right now. It is meaningful to offer BBC programmes for ownership by selling digital DVDs as more and more people watch TV digitally.
Consumers can only buy content from BBC Store that storing on the BBC. For those non-subscribers, they can buy and download individual shows or series to keep. So the digital DVDs plays an important role in BBC Store.
